Robert W. Snyder, MD, PhD

Dr. Robert SnyderDr. Snyder is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained corneal surgeon with a special interest and expertise in cataract and laser vision correction surgery. He performs the most advanced techniques of "Custom Cornea" surgery using the Epi-LASIK or LASIK procedures.

"I really enjoy performing Epi-LASIK and LASIK surgery and seeing the joy and excitement this brings to my patients," Dr. Snyder said.

"I'm a perfectionist, and I enjoy doing things right and embrace the challenge to continuously improve our techniques, reduce the risk to our patients, and obtain the best results I possibly can. I feel blessed to be able to perform eye surgery, and find the same enjoyment in performing microsurgery now that I first experienced 23 years ago."

Dr. Snyder has been selected as one of the "Best Doctors in America" and as one of the "Best Docs" in Tucson. He is active as an educator. Dr. Snyder provides volunteer services for the Lions and other organizations. For his work, he has received numerous awards for the prevention of eye diseases, including the Lions distinguished "Humanitarian of the Year" award for the state of Arizona. 

The National Eye Institute and private industry have funded Dr. Snyder's research. He has over 75 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. His professional activities include a leadership role as past President of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group, services as Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, membership and regular participation in the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Snyder has lived in Tucson for 19 years, and he is currently a tenured Professor of Biomedical Engineering and served as the Head of the Department of Opthalmology for many years. Besides eye surgery, Dr. Snyder enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters. He is an avid fisherman and skier, and he enjoys playing tennis, and rooting for the Wildcats.
